Tours are where marketing promises meet reality. A beautiful lobby does not tell you how the community handles nighttime care, medication support, or staff response times. The right questions help families look past presentation and focus on everyday resident experience.

• What additional care fees are common?
• How are medications stored and administered?
• What is the staff-to-resident support model?
• How often are care plans updated?
• What happens if needs increase after move-in?
• What is the move-in fee and what does it cover?
• How is dining handled for residents who need more help?
• How are falls or emergencies documented and communicated?
• What transportation is available every week?
• What is the average tenure of key staff?

Try to visit once during a normal weekday, not just during a polished marketing appointment. Observe whether residents appear engaged, whether food service looks organized, whether hallways are calm, and whether staff interactions feel warm or rushed.
